Multi-mini-interview (MMI) coaching
Medical, veterinary and dentistry school interviews
Medical, veterinary and dendistry school interview processes vary widely.
Most applicants apply to universities that use a mix of interview formats, including Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs), traditional panel interviews, and blended or scenario-based assessments.
MMIs are designed to assess how you think, communicate, and respond under pressure — not just what you know. The format is demanding: candidates rotate through a series of short interview stations, each testing different qualities, with very limited time to build rapport and demonstrate insight.
Strong academic candidates often find interviews challenging — not because they lack ability, but because success depends on clarity, judgement, and communication across different interview styles.
I work with a small number of medical and veterinary applicants each year to help them prepare in a focused, structured, and realistic way.
What effective preparation looks like
Preparation needs to reflect the reality of how medical, veterinary and dental schools recruit.
Most applicants apply to universities that use a range of interview formats, including Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs), panel interviews, and blended or scenario-based assessments. Some candidates naturally perform better in one format than another, which is why I generally encourage students to apply to institutions offering a mix of interview styles.
Coaching is therefore adapted to reflect this.
I focus on helping you:
-
Understand the intent behind different interview formats
-
Respond confidently in both short MMI stations and longer panel interviews
-
Structure clear answers under time pressure
-
Communicate empathy, insight and judgement consistently
-
Reset and refocus between questions and stations
This approach prepares you to perform well across interview formats, rather than training narrowly for one style.
What MMI stations and panel interviews typically assess
While stations and questions vary by institution and year, medical, veterinary and dental school interviews commonly explore:
-
Motivation and insight
Understanding of the profession and reasons for applying -
Ethical reasoning
Applying ethical principles to realistic scenarios -
Problem solving and decision-making
Thinking clearly and proportionately under pressure -
Communication and empathy
Particularly in sensitive or interpersonal situations -
Teamwork and collaboration
Working with others and responding to different perspectives -
Data interpretation or analysis
Making sense of unfamiliar information and explaining your thinking
These qualities are assessed across both MMIs and panel interviews — just in different ways.
